Montreal, September 21, 2024 - It is with great pride that theMontreal Afro-Canadian Cultural Centre (CCAM) announces that its founder and Executive Director, Allen Alexandre, has been awarded the Coronation Medal of King Charles III. This prestigious award, presented at a ceremony held on September 20, 2024 at the Senate of Canada, recognizes Allen's outstanding contributions to Canadian society and to the promotion of diversity within our society.

Created to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the medal is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada or to particular communities. Allen Alexandre was chosen for his unwavering commitment to celebrating and promoting African-Canadian heritage, and for his leadership role in the cultural community.

As founder of the CCAM, Allen has played, and continues to play, a leading role in the development of the largest cultural infrastructure project ever conceived for Black communities in Canada. However, his leadership is not limited to this achievement. A sought-after opinion leader, Allen has published half a dozen articles in English and French, offering insightful perspectives on a variety of topics related to art and culture, economic development, equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as Canadian identity, La Francophonie and Canada's role on the international stage. His analyses and reflections have been published in several leading Canadian publications, including the Toronto Star, La Presse, Le Devoir and Open Canada. He is also involved in a number of organizations that advance the economic interests of youth, women and groups that are often under-represented or historically marginalized.

Touched by this recognition and mark of distinction, CCAM's Executive Director declared: "It's a real honor for me to receive this medal. It represents much more than personal recognition; it's a victory for all those who work tirelessly, and often behind the scenes, to build a society that lives up to its ideals of justice and equity."

Beyond being an honor for CCAM's Executive Director, this recognition highlights the importance of community involvement and cultural contributions in our society. The CCAM is thus committed to pursuing its mission of preserving and promoting the cultural and artistic heritage of Black communities through its various programs and innovative initiatives, and to building a lasting legacy for future generations.
