Montreal, Quebec - July 4, 2024 - The Montreal Afro-Canadian Cultural Centre (CCAM) is proud to announce the first edition of its charity and cultural event, Bal Afrikana, to be held on September 7, 2024 at Maison Alcan. This prestigious event will mark an immersive celebration of the rich culture of black communities in a new light.
A unique celebration
Bal Afrikana aims to create a sense of pride among members of black communities by encouraging the wearing of traditional Afro-descendant clothing. While stimulating and propelling Montreal's creative Afro fashion industry, Bal Afrikana will also create significant business opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The event will promote and celebrate the heritage of black communities at a time other than February (Black History Month), normalizing the wearing of traditional dress.
Objectives and impact
The main objective of Bal Afrikana is to strengthen the sense of cultural pride among people of African descent by showcasing the best of the cultural richness of black communities. By providing a platform for local designers, Bal Afrikana will also promote business opportunities for small companies specializing in African products. On the social front, Bal Afrikana will encourage inclusion and diversity, while strengthening community ties and fostering intercultural dialogue.
An unforgettable evening
The first edition of Bal Afrikana aims to welcome 500 participants. Among the activities planned, participants will be able to enjoy an exclusive fashion show featuring African fashion creations and trends, a glamorous red carpet arrival, make-up booths and sales of traditional Afro-Caribbean accessories, offering the chance to acquire unique and authentic pieces to wear during the ball.
