Bal Afrikana: CCAM announces an Ambassadors’ Club for its charity initiative

Montreal, July 17, 2024 - The Montreal Afro-Canadian Cultural Centre (CCAM) is proud to announce the ambassadors of the Bal Afrikana, a flagship fundraising initiative to be held in Montreal at Maison Alcan on September 7.

Bal Afrikana offers an immersive celebration of the rich cultures of black communities in a new light, inviting participants to show off their talents by wearing traditional African and Afro-Caribbean garb, while showcasing Montreal's creative Afro fashion industry.

The Bal Afrikana 2024 Ambassador's Club is a team of dedicated ambassadors who reinforce the impact and reach of the Bal Afrikana. Dynamic, committed women with diverse professional backgrounds and passions, they have contributed to the conception of the Bal Afrikana from the outset, and have been involved in every aspect of its planning and execution. They act as intermediaries between CCAM and stakeholders, ensuring active community involvement, and spreading the word about Bal Afrikana through their personal and professional networks.

For the very first Bal Afrikana, the CCAM proudly unveils its four spokespeople:

Baya Touré: Manager, Business Development, McMillan LLP
Fatoumata Camara: Leader of human resources and diversity, equity and inclusion at IG Wealth Management.
Seynabou Ba: International Affairs Advisor, Lecturer at HEC Montréal, Director, Finalist for the RJCCQ 2023 Women's Leadership Award, Diversity Ambassador (Groupe des trente CMTL).
Tamaïka Jumelle: Director, Federal Partnerships and Strategy at Invest in Canada, Member of Excellence Québec, and Corporate Director.

The ambassadors in their own words:

Baya Touré - "I chose to get involved as an ambassador for Bal Afrikana because it's important to me to celebrate and promote the diversity and richness of the cultures of black communities. I salute the ambition and innovative spirit of Montreal's Afro-Canadian Cultural Centre, which continues to raise the bar by creating initiatives that have a concrete impact in our city. Bal Afrikana is an evening where party, networking, fashion and the celebration of tradition meet philanthropy. Join me on September 7 to network, celebrate and show off for a good cause!"

Fatoumata Camara - "I signed up as an ambassador for Bal Afrikana, not only because it's an authentic celebration of the rich cultural heritage of black communities. But above all because it's a charitable initiative that supports a cause that has always appealed to me: young people. Since democratizing access to art and culture, particularly for young people from historically disadvantaged communities, is one of the founding objectives of Montreal's Afro-Canadian Cultural Centre, I couldn't resist joining the extraordinary club of ambassadors for Bal Afrikana 2024. Come and join me on September 7 to celebrate, celebrate and authentically show off while supporting a noble cause at the same time."

Seynabou Ba - "It's not often that you find institutions with the sensitivity and concern to bring everyone together in an inclusive way around structuring initiatives, as Montreal's Afro-Canadian Cultural Centre does. I joined as an ambassador for the Bal Afrikana, because it's a perfect example of this concern and an opportunity for me to support the mission of an organization that works to celebrate the richness, beauty and diversity that are the strength of black communities and their contribution to our society. So find yourself a suit or put on your extravaganza or African or Afro-Caribbean style and join me on September 7 for the dizzying Bal Afrikana experience. Your presence will make all the difference."

Tamaïka Jumelle - "Passionate about the arts, an enthusiastic observer of fashion trends, and committed to celebrating our Afro-Caribbean cultures, I'm thrilled to be involved as an Ambassador for the Bal Afrikana. I'm particularly excited by this unique opportunity to highlight one of the priorities of Montreal's Afro-Canadian Cultural Centre: making art and culture a vector for economic development in our communities. On September 7, let's join together for this dazzling evening in support of an innovative charitable initiative."

The Bal Afrikana promises to be an unforgettable event, offering a unique platform for celebrating the cultural richness of black communities while supporting a noble cause.
